Aaron Walawalkar Joins RightsInfo As News And Digital Editor

RightsInfo is delighted to announce the appointment of our new News and Digital Editor, who will be leading a drive for original, quality journalism.

Aaron Walawalkar, who joined the team on Monday, May 13, has a strong background in on-the-ground reporting and human rights, previously working at the Ilford Recorder where a year-long rough sleeping newspaper campaign he lead helped raise more than £21,000.

Speaking about his appointment, Aaron said he was excited to join the team, especially at a time when “our work is needed now more than ever”.

“I feel extremely lucky to have this opportunity to be leading up RightsInfo’s coverage of the beat of human rights in the UK,” he continued.

“I am especially excited to be working with such a talented, energetic, and ambitious team.”

In his first week of working with the RightsInfo team, Aaron has already published a range of articles, including original interviews and comments with leading human rights barristers, MP David Davis and a sexual health specialist who led the Royal College of Nursing to back the decriminalisation of sex work.

Sadly, it seems we’re living in times in which society is increasingly divided. Our work is needed now more than ever.

As well as putting a focus on quality, original reporting at RightsInfo, Aaron will also be leading our wider editorial and social strategy, to help inspire more people to think again about human rights.

“Sadly, it seems we’re living in times in which society is increasingly divided. Our work is needed now more than ever to highlight that there is more that unites us than what sets us apart.”

RightsInfo CEO Alex Feis-Bryce added: “I’m really delighted to welcome Aaron to our team. He is a passionate, ethical and determined journalist with a great record of covering important issues in an accurate and empathetic way.

“In particular, his extensive reporting of rough sleeping in east London in his previous role had a significant impact and was nominated for multiple awards. I am confident that he will bring a great deal to our talented team and play a key role in developing our important work.”
