Happy Second Birthday RightsInfo!

RightsInfo turns two today! 🎉  In celebration of our second birthday, we’re taking a look back at a few of our biggest milestones.

Our second year has seen many big changes for human rights. The UK’s laws, its Government and its relationship with Europe have all shifted. At RightsInfo, we are dedicated to keeping you up-to-date with how the latest developments affect your human rights.

RightsInfo’s impact in the past year has been amazing, especially for a relatively tiny charity. We have reached millions of people, increasing knowledge and understanding of human rights at a vital time. If you value our work, please consider making a small donation via our brand new Just Giving page.

Keeping you ‘in the know’

We have been keeping an eye on the human rights implications of Brexit including the triggering of Article 50, which began the official process of Britain’s exit from the European Union. We have investigated topical rights issues, such as BHS, Uber, high heels and gay cake. And we’re tracking speculation over the future of the Human Rights Act and our membership of the Human Rights Convention. Watch this space.

What’s new at RightsInfo

This year we’ve also had some exciting changes – with new faces and new tools to bring you even more human rights news, views and info.

Earlier this year we welcomed our new Chief Executive Julia Kirby-Smith, News and Social Media Editor Jem Collins and Video Producer Jack Satchell. We have also grown our volunteer base and are currently looking for more volunteers – details here (deadline 30th April).

We bring you human rights news and info in an engaging, accessible and entertaining way. Thanks to generous support from our funders and the dedication of our volunteers and staff, we produce plain-English explainers, features, infographics and news articles, as well as snazzy, new video explainers, covering the latest landmark cases and developments in human rights.

We’re inspired by the idea that human rights protect against injustice, and make our society fairer and more equal. But we’re not the only ones. We’ve been collecting 100s of inspiring human rights quotes from leaders, artists and change-makers for you to share.

And the winner is…

We’re very pleased and proud that our work has been recognised in one way or another by some of our favourite people.

On the road

In February, RightsInfo’s Founder and Strategic Director, Adam Wagner, and Creative Director, Yoav Segal, were delighted to speak about RightsInfo at #SMEX17 – the Social Media Exchange 2017 – run by the fantastic digital storytelling organisation sounddelivery.

👇🏽  Sounds like a great idea👇🏽

We’ll make it even easier 😉  … here’s the video👇🏾

In March, our founder, Adam, also delivered the Annual Human Rights Lecture organised by the Equality and Human Rights Commission Wales. This year, the lecture was hosted at Cardiff University Law School. The topic? How we tackle Fake News, Human Rights and Access to Justice.

In case you missed it, you can watch a video of Adam’s lecture here 👇🏻
